Mechanics of Microspheres Reinforced Hollow Microcells

Abstract Emerging polymeric foams exhibiting unique microstructure of microspherical shells with reinforcing dense microspheres creates a new opportunity for impact-tolerant foam paddings in sport gears applications. This paper describes the static response reinforced microcell consisting an outer spherical shell and uniformly distributed while quantifying stiffening effect. The distribution is illustrated using Fourier series, allowing tuning strategy. Expressions external internal works are derived, whereas Ritz energy method adopted to calculate deformations due compressive load over range areas. Emphasis given effect geometrical attributes on resulting deformation framework used investigate several case studies elucidate effects relative radii ratio, reinforcement density, wall thickness, loading configurations stiffness. A normalized strain parameter introduced simplify accelerate analysis providing insights underpinnings observed buckling response. results strongly suggest viability newly discovered managing loads strategically tune mechanical analytical presented herein.
